I have always insisted that this image is simply about an orange wall and a white dress and has absolutely nothing to do with being single and without children as I edge closer to 40 because these are choices I’ve willingly made and don’t regret. But my insistent denial has made me realise that there is more to this image than I think. We are raised to follow society’s milestones and when we fail to do so we are bombarded by criticism and are continually forced to question our choices. As children we dream of how our weddings and marriages will be and it sometimes feels as if my choices have let that child down. So yes, I do sometimes feel regret over being single and without children as I edge closer to 40, but not for the reasons you’d think.
